Growing Trees, Growing Communities
About Shadetree Nursery Partnership

Shadetree Nursery Partnership, Inc. is a volunteer-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to creating healthier, greener, and more livable communities through the planting and stewardship of shade trees and other nursery plants. Located on the University of California, Irvine (UCI) campus, Shadetree operates a 5.5-acre nursery where volunteers nurture and care for more than 4,000 trees, shrubs, and groundcovers.

These plants are eventually planted in schools, parks, churches, and other public spaces, contributing to greener neighborhoods and a healthier environment for future generations. Since its founding in 1990, Shadetree has planted more than 36,500 trees and groundcovers throughout local communities. Numerous Orange County schools, colleges, community groups, nonprofit organizations, and businesses have participated in Shadetree's volunteer activities.

Volunteer Activities
Volunteers play an essential role in helping young trees grow and thrive. Activities include:

• Weeding and maintaining nursery areas

• Transplanting young trees into larger containers

• Installing and maintaining tree stakes

• Raking and general nursery maintenance

• Caring for trees and preparing them for future planting

No prior gardening or nursery experience is required. Shadetree staff provide guidance and training to all volunteers.

IKPAVC Adopt-A-Row Program
Through Shadetree's Adopt-A-Row program, individuals and organizations take responsibility for caring for a designated row of trees at the nursery. IKPAVC participates in this program by maintaining its adopted row, providing students with opportunities to engage in environmental stewardship and contribute to their local community.

By caring for young trees week after week, students gain hands-on experience in environmental conservation, develop a sense of responsibility, and learn the importance of teamwork and long-term commitment. Their efforts contribute to the growth of trees that will eventually provide shade, improve public spaces, and benefit communities for years to come.

Shadetree Nursery Partnership
Shadetree Nursery Partnership

IKPAVC Adopt-A-Row
