Korean-American Dementia Center

​​The Dementia Center Volunteer Service is a meaningful volunteer opportunity where students provide one-on-one support to seniors living with dementia at the Korean -American Dementia Center in Gardena, California. The program runs from 9:40 a.m. to 1:40 p.m. and is designed to provide seniors with companionship, care, and meaningful interaction in a warm and supportive environment.

As IKPAVC volunteers, students spend time with seniors through a variety of activities that encourage connection, engagement, and joy. They interact with each senior with the same warmth and care they would show their own grandparents, creating opportunities for conversation, laughter, and meaningful connection.

​

Volunteers work one-on-one with seniors throughout the program, helping with activities, listening to their stories, and providing companionship and emotional support. Through this experience, students gain a better understanding of dementia and learn the importance of patience, empathy, and caring for others.

​

Most importantly, this program gives students the opportunity to make a positive difference in a senior’s day while building meaningful connections and gaining valuable experience caring for others.

Dementia Center Volunteer Service는 캘리포니아 가디나에 위치한 Korean-American Dementia Center에서 학생들이 치매 어르신들과 1:1로 함께하며 도움을 드리는 의미 있는 봉사활동입니다. 봉사시간은 오전 9시 40분부터 오후 1시 40분까지 진행되며, 어르신들이 따뜻하고 편안한 환경에서 서로 소통하고 즐거운 시간을 보내실 수 있도록 돕는 프로그램입니다.

IKPAVC 봉사자들은 다양한 활동을 통해 치매 어르신들과 자연스럽게 소통하고, 정서적인 따뜻함과 즐거움을 나누는 시간을 갖습니다. 마치 자신의 할머니, 할아버지를 대하듯 따뜻한 마음으로 어르신들과 이야기를 나누고 함께 활동하며, 웃음과 활력을 더해 드립니다.

봉사자들은 프로그램 동안 어르신 한 분 한 분을 1:1로 돌보며 활동을 도와드리고, 이야기에 귀 기울이며 편안하고 안정된 시간을 보내실 수 있도록 함께합니다. 이러한 경험을 통해 학생들은 치매라는 질환에 대해 더 잘 이해하게 되고, 다른 사람을 배려하고 돌보는 데 필요한 인내심과 공감, 책임감을 자연스럽게 배울 수 있습니다.

무엇보다 이 봉사활동은 학생들이 어르신들의 하루에 작은 기쁨과 따뜻함을 더해 드리는 동시에, 서로에게 의미 있는 관계를 만들어가고 다른 사람을 돌보는 소중한 경험을 쌓을 수 있는 기회입니다.
